Lighthouse Pictures

The National Park Service lists 62 historic lighthouses on the West Coast: 34 California, 9 Oregon and 19 Washington.

All of them were originally built to help with ship navigation in dangerous coastal waters. Some are still operational, however, many now serve primarily as tourist attractions.

A visit to any or all of them is a fun addition to any beach vacation. A few choice lighthouses such as Heceta Head on the Oregon Coast also have Bed and Breakfast accommodations on site.

Anyone who takes a trip to the coast finds it practically impossible not to snap a picture or two of the local lighthouse.

The links in the box point to a small lighthouse collection that emphasizes West Coast lighthouses.
