All of them were originally built to help with ship navigattion in dangerous coastal waters. Some are still operational, however, many now serve primarily as tourist attractions.
A visit to any or all of them is a fun addition to any beach vacation. A few choice lighthouses such as Heceta Head on the Oregon Coast also have Bed and Breakfast accomodations on site.
