White-faced Meadowhawk

picture of a white-faced meadowhawk dragonfly

The White-faced Meadowhawk (Sympetrum obtrusum) range through most of the northern tier of the United States, with a limited presence in southern areas.

The white face and dark triangles along the side of the abdomen serve as basic field ID clues.

Unlike most meadowhawk species, some females have a red color on the abdomen.
