Meadowhawk dragonflies are in the Genus Sympetrum, a part of the common skimmer family.

The Variegated Meadowhawk (Sympetrum corruptum) is a nice looking dragonfly.

The top picture shows a male with red striped on the abdomen that blend with the brown body and white spots.

Females look similar except the red on the abdomen is switched to brown. The Variegated Meadowhawk is common throughout the United States and normally is one of the earlier arrivals in spring.
