picture of a Great Blue skimmer dragonfly

The Great Blue Skimmer (Libellula vibrans), the largest member of the skimmer genus libellula, inhabits pond and lake areas of the East and Southeast.

Mature males have a blue body, blue eyes, white face and dark tipped wings.

Females resemble the specimen in the picture, however, when young their eyes are brown.

Immature males also resemble the specimen in the picture. and the blue at the top of the thorax suggests the specimen is an immature male.
