White Shooting Star

picture of a white shooting star

The White Shooting Star (Dodecatheon dentatum) is one of the smaller members of the shooting star genus of the Primrose family (Primulaceae).

Their range is limited to the Pacific Northwest, with a couple of variants found in the desert Southwest.

They grow in woodland areas, and because of the abundance of small white flowers found in woodlands during June, a close-up look is necessary to distinguish among them all. Compare it, for example, with the Henderson's Shooting Star.

The picture shows an enlarged version of the flower, and a close inspection reveals its common shooting star characteristics.
