Selfheal

picture of a selfheal flower

A flower named selfheal suggests a flower with a medicinal background. While there are many stories about its use in traditional medicine, scientific research into its potential medicinal benefits is relatively new.

Species in the selfheal genus (Prunella) are members of the mint family, and two native plants are common throughout North America.

They grow readily in a variety of habitats, including fields, forests and roadsides, sometimes to the point of being weedy.
