The name speaks for itself. The beautiful flowering plants of the genus Zigadenus are highly toxic.

Different death camas species can be found throughout most of the United States, with the exception of New England.

Mountain Death Camas (Zigadenus elegans) has the widest range of any species.

The picture shows the Meadow Death Camas (Zigadenus venenosus) with its characteristic multiple small white flowers accented with small yellow dots. It is common throughout the West.
