Windflowers

Windflowers or Anemones is the common name given to a variety of flowering plants in the buttercup family, most in the Anemone genus.

The Columbia Windflower and False Rue Anemone are two examples of native species, and the top picture, Anemone Blanda or the Grecian Windflower is an example of a non-native species planted in many gardens for spring bloom.

Their easy to grow nature (pop the bulbs in the ground during the fall) and their long lived spring flowers add to their popularity.

Once established, these low growing flowers tend to return year after year. Anemone coronaria, Poppy Anemones, are also popular garden picks.

USDA zones 4-8.
