Common Centaury

picture of common centaury flowers

Common Centaury (Centaurium erythraea) is not a traditional flashy garden ornamental it's a somewhat small flowering plant of European origin.

The pink petals contrasted by yellow anthers now grow naturally in a variety of soil types in fields and roadsides along both coasts.

Its ability to adapt to many soil conditions makes it a nice late spring blooming addition to many less cultivated gardens and rock gardens.
