Great Egret

picture of a great egret

The Great Egret (Ardea alba) is a large bird in the heron family. It is characterized by white feathers and a yellow bill.

They are a very common bird in water areas of the East, Gulf and West Coasts.

Great egrets have traditionally been the hardiest of the West Coast egrets. They are similar in size, and live in the same areas, as the Great Blue Heron.

Populations extend up to the Canadian border.
