They grow wild and they are commonly planted in many gardens around the United States.
Strawberry plants thrive in sunny conditions with well drained soil, high in organic content.
Planting starts in spring, ususally after the first frost. Most gardeners recommend planting them on raised beds consisting of a soil and compost mix, in an area that gets good sun.
Make sure no tomatoes, peppers or eggplants have grown in the area previously.
Keep plants separated by at least a foot because they send out runners to produce new plants.
Weed and water the area regularly.
Grown in small quantities, strawberries do not require pesticide applications to flourish. Keep an eye out for spittlebugs.
