They are related to peaches, cherries and other fruits with stone seeds.
Horticulturalists identify three different types of plum trees, European, Damson and Japanese. Each type of plum tre has its own pollination and habitat preferences. The European plum, for example, is suited to temperate climates.
Plums are delicious either fresh or in their dried form as prunes. They are a very good source of fiber.
