Wild Blueberries

picture of a wild blueberries

Blueberries are a North American specialty fruit with over eighty per cent production coming from the United States and Canada.

Blueberry plants are members of the family Ericace. They are low growing woody shrubs that prefer wet acidic soil. They are commonly found in wetlands areas and forests that receive high amounts of rainfall.

Most people think fondly of blueberries, linking them to summer picking excursions through fields and forests.

Maine leads the United States in wild blueberry production.
