Syrphid Fly: Arctophila

| Additional Fly Resources Syrphid Fies Types of Flies Types of Insects |
At first glance, an Arctophila species can easily be mistaken for a bumblebee.
These nice looking flies are a larger size Syrphid fly with a fuzzy gold thorax and a hairy gold abdomen that also shows a patch of red hair in the middle.
A close look at the picture shows dark spots in the middle of the wings and the traditional fly eyes and facial pattern.
Arctophila species inhabit higher elevation areas in the Western United States.
