Indian paintbrush (Castilleja) flowering plants in the Figwort family (Scrophulariaceae) grow across the United States, often in shades of red and pink.

While yellow paintbrush species are not the norm, with over one hundred paintbrush species, a handful are yellow.

The top picture tentatively shows Castilleja affinis, a West Coast species that has both yellow and red forms.
