Barberry are a genus (Berberise) of evergreen flowering shrubs in the Barberry family.

Best known for their thorny branches and berries, they are commonly used as edging shrubs that delineate a boundary.

The Wintergreen Barberry (Berberis julianae) is native to China that produces yellow flowers in the spring which are followed by a darker berry.

They can grow to reach ten feet in height, or pruned regulary to maintain a traditional boxed head look. Because of the thorns, care is always advised during pruning.
