Small Bluebells

picture of small bluebells

Spring marks the tradition bloom time for bluebells (genus Mertensia, forget-me-not family Boraginaceae) around the United States.

Small Bluebells (Mertensia longiflora) grow close to the ground in sagebrush and mountain areas of the Western United States and Western Canada.

Generally the Mertensia flowers look similar. Size, habitat and leaves constitute the major differences among the plants.
