Shasta Sulphur

picture of a shasta sulphur flower

Shasta Sulphur (Eriogonum umbellatum), also called Sulfur Buckwheat, is a bright yellow flowering plant in the buckwheat family (Polygonaceae).

It's fairly adaptable, growing in and around forested areas and mountain areas of Southern Oregon and Northern California.

The plant grows about a foot tall, in clumps surrounded by its large leaves. Its compact shape and bright flower heads make it a popular garden flower.

The flowers attract butterflies and other insects.
