Pacific Waterleaf

picture of Pacific Waterleaf flowers

Nine native Waterleaf plants (genus Hydrophyllaceae) grow on forest floors and other wetlands environments around the United States.

They all share the property of being low growing plants with large leaves that produce a cluster of flowers from a single, branching stem. Like many plants in the Waterleaf family (Hydrophyllaceae) the flowers are accompanied by long stamen.

Pacific Waterleaf (Hydrophyllum tenuipes) is one of four different Hydrophyllum species native to the West Coast. The white petals and purple stamen serve as good field identification clues.
