Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja) are wildflowers found across the United States.

They come come in a variety of colors, with red the most common. Fields of Indian Paintbrush are attractive to a variety of butterfly and hummingbird species.

They are in the figwort family and are commonly called, Indian Paintbrush or Desert Paintbrush or Prairie Paintbrush, depending on location.

It is classified as an edible plant. The petals might look nice as a garnish, however, consume at your own risk.

Wyoming calls the Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja linariaefolia) its official state flower.
