Forsythia

picture of yellow Forsythia flowers

Forsythia may go unrecognized throughout most of the year, however, come early spring their long thin branches filled with yellow flowers can be a head turner.

They are deciduous shrubs that grow without much fuss in USDA Zones 4 - 8.

During the winter their appearance amounts to little more that thin branches protruding from a central set of thicker stems. Many varieties can reach ten feet in height or more, so their winter dormancy provides a good time for pruning to ensure they fit their alloted landscape space.
