Dayflower

picture of a dayflower, Commelina erecta

The Dayflower (Commelina erecta), also called the Slender Dayflower or Whitemouth Dayflower, is a small, delicate looking flower in the Spiderwort family (Commelinaceae).

In botanical terms, it is an herbaceous perennial, and thirteen different species are found growing around the United States, east of the Rocky Mountains.

A few Commelina species are introduced and naturalized. Most of the species are characterized by the blue petals that bloom for a day and then fade.
