The Coast Range Mariposa lily (Calochortus vestae), another California native, grows on well drained, sunny areas of Northern California from the coast to the inlands in proximity to the Sacramento River.

The markings on the petals can vary, but usually consists of red eyes with a stippled or blotchy pattern on the bottom.

Flowers bloom in spring and the species has been cultivated for home gardens.
