California Harebell

picture of a california harebell (Campanula prenanthoides)

Bellflowers (genus Campanula) are a popular blue flowering plant, with a handful of native European species introduced into United States gardens, later to escape to the wild.

The California Harebell (Campanula prenanthoides) is a slight and slender native bellflower species that grows in the coniferous forests of Northern California and Southwestern Oregon.

It's easily identified by the elongated pistil and recurved petals.
