Largeleaf Avens

picture of a largeleaf avens flower

The avens are a small genus (Geum) of flowering plants in the rose family, with about two dozen species found in the United States.

Most species produce small flowers that are yellow, orange or red, and they often resemble cinquefoil.

The Largeleaf Avens (Geum macrophyllum) grows close to the ground. If often stands out because its yellow flowers grow against the green background of its large leaves.
