Mandarin Ducks

picture of a mandarin duck

The colorful feathers of the male Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata) mimic the colorful feathers of its North American relative the Wood Duck.

Females of both species are less colorful.

They are hardy and adaptable birds that are native to China. Over time they have been introduced into wild areas of Asia and Europe.

In the United States, they are most often seen in zoos and animal parks.
