Meadowhawk dragonflies are in the Genus Sympetrum, a part of the common skimmer family.
The Male Variegated Meadowhawk (Sympetrum corruptum) is a nice looking dragonfly. The red blends well with the brown body and white spots. It is very common throughout the United States and normally is one of the earlier arrivals in spring.
