Twilight Darner

picture of a twilight Darner dragonfly

Gynacantha, also called Two-spined Darners, are primarily a tropical genus of darners, and the Twilight Darner (Gynacantha nervosa) is one of two species found in the United States.

They reside in and around temporary waterways and wooded areas of Florida and South Georgia.

The name Twilight refers to the fact they they are often seen flying at dusk and dawn. However, they are also known to fly and perch in wooded areas during daylight hours.

The picture shows their relatively unmarked abdomen, uncommon for darners. As they age, their wings turn dark, again an uncommon darner trait.
