Red-waisted Whiteface Dragonfly

The red-waisted whiteface is a fairly common dragonfly in Southern Canada and the Northern United States. They are skimmers that dwell around marshes and ponds.
The above picture showing some faint dots on the bottom of the abdominal section is characteristic of either a female or a juvenile male. You can not see the characteristic white face.
The picture below shows the adult male. The thorax and abdomen have a deep red color contrasted with black. The face is white.
