The Tricanthagyna genus of darners live primarily in tropical areas, and the Phantom Darner (Tricanthagyna trifida) is the sole United States Tricanthagyna representative.

They are known as Three-spined Darners because of the three spines that stick out on the lower abdomen of females.

They live in forested areas of southern Georgia and Florida and fly during the fall.
