Gomphidae: Clubtails and Snaketails Clubtails Dragonfly Facts Dragonfly Pictures

The Grappletail (Octogomphus specularis) is the sole representative of the genus found in the United States.

It is strickly a West Coast resident that lives along cool mountain streams from British Columbia, south through California.

The top picture shows a side view of the male with white nose and white thorax stripes. There is also a yellow form.

The bottom picture shows a female, with more coloring along the side of the abdomen.
