Dot-tailed Whiteface

picture of a male dot-tailed whiteface

Whiteface dragonflies in the Genus Leucorrhinia are among the many common skimmers that inhabit ponds and marshes across the United States.

They get their name from their characteristic white face. While some dragonflies are difficult to identify, that is not the case with the dot-tailed whiteface.

The abdomen is black with a yellow dot at the bottom. The face, or nose portion of the face, is white.
