Desert Firetail

picture of a desert firetail

Finding a red colored damselfly is always a treat. In the Southern areas of the United States, a red damselfly can belong to either the genus Genus Amphiagrion (Red Damsels) or the Genus Telebasis ( Firetails).

The Desert Firetail (Telebasis salva) is one of three native Telebasis species, found in slow moving water areas from California to Texas.

Males are considerably more colorful than the females.
