Blue-eyed Darner

The Blue-eyed Darner (Rhionaeschna multicolor) is one of five tropical dragonflies native to the United States.

It's also one of the widest ranging Rhionaeschna, found in many areas of the Western United States, north to British Columbia, Canada.

The blue spotted abdomen resembles the abdomen of the California Darner. The thin top thoracic stripes represents the best initial field identification clue.

Females come in both blue and green forms, and the bottom picture shows a green female.
