Sulphur buckwheat (Eriogonum umbellatum) is one of hundreds of species of native buckwheats found growing in the United States.

With thirty differet varieties of Sulphur buckwheat identified growing in the Western United States, the yellow flowers represent the best general field identification mark.

The plants grow low to the ground and produce multiple small flowers on the top of a thin stem.

Again generally speaking, buckwheat are considered great butterfly plants. The Sulphur Buckwheat hosts a variety of native butterflies, including blues and coppers.
