Tawny Emperor Caterpillar

With the thousands of small green caterpillars in existence, identifying any particular species gets easier when they sport a set of antlers and white nose.

The Tawny Emperor Caterpillar in the top pictures looks similar to other Emperor caterpillars. The green stripe down the middle and the antlers are good field identification clues.

The species is fairly common in the Eastern part of the United States, and the caterpillars can be found on leaves of different types of elm trees.
