Salt Marsh Moth Caterpillar

picture of a Salt Marsh moth caterpillar

Large, fuzzy caterpillars commonly fit into the Tiger Moth family (Arctiidae), an unusually colorful family of moths.

The picture shows the mature form of a Salt Marsh moth or Acrea Moth caterpillar, (Estigmene acrea), a fairly common moth that ranges throughout the United States.

They are general feeders that consume a variety of plants in their territory.
