Mexican Blue Wing Caterpillar

picture of a Mexican Bluewing caterpillar

The Mexican Bluewing caterpillar looks much less unassuming than the black and blue striped adult Mexican Bluewing

The top picture shows the green bodied caterpillar feeding on a leave from the Vasey's wild lime (Adelia vaseyi) shrub, its food plant.

Note, Vasey's wild lime is a plant in the Spurge family, native only to Texas. Other shrubs and trees with lime in the name, such as Wild Lime (Zanthoxylum fagara) and Lime Trees (Citrus aurantifolia) are members of the family Rutaceae.
