Pardofelis

Members of the Pardofelis genus are sometimes referred to collectively as Bay Cats or Marbled Cats, based on the names of two of its three species.

Slightly larger than the average domestic cat, they inhabit the forests of Southern Asia.

The Borneo Bay Cat (Pardofelis badia), named for its geographical home, the island of Borneo, has the most limited range. Habitat destruction continues to place pressure on its population levels and the IUCN lists it as an endangered species.

The two additional Pardofelis species, the Marbled Cat (Pardofelis marmorata) and the Asiatic Golden Cat (Pardofelis temminckii) range throughout many of the Southern Asian forested areas. This broader range means that the region's changing habitat has not placed as great a stress on their population levels as that felt by the Borneo Bay Cat.
