The Margay (Leopardus wiedii) is a medium sized, new world, spotted cat.

It is found from Mexico south to South America. On rare occasions it is known to cross the border into the United states.

Margays are not listed as endangered by the IUCN, although they are listed as endangered by the United States.

They prefer a forest habitat, and most accounts of the species mention their ability to climb down trees head first. When you watch cats and birds in the wild, you notice that they typically climb down trees feet first.
