Clouded Leopards
| More Animal Resources Types of Animals Wild Cats |
Once considered a single species with different subspecies, in 2008, the Clouded Leopard was split into two species.
They are medium sized cats marked with over sized spots or clouds. Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, they are comfortable with an arboreal existence, catching most of their prey in trees.
The IUCN lists the two species and their subspecies as follows:
- >Sunda Clouded Leopard (Neofelis diardi): Status: Vulnerable
- Bornean Clouded Leopard (Neofelis diardi ssp. borneensis): Status: Endangered
- Sumatran Clouded Leopard (Neofelis diardi ssp. diardi): Status: Endangered
- Clouded Leopard (Neofelis nebulosa): Status: Vulnerable
