Fatal Metalmark

picture of a Fatal Metalmark butterfly

The Fatal Metalmark (Calephelis nemesis) is a fairly common species found from Southern California, east to Southern Texas.

Its bland, brown wings show a hint of metallic color in the hindwing and forewing borders. Unfortunately the top picture, taken mostly in the shade, fails to highlight the metallic pattern.

The caterpillars feed on seepwill and other plants in the Aster family, and adults nectar at nearby flowers.
