Queen Bolete (Boletus regineus)

picture of a Queen Bolete mushroom (Boletus regineus)

The Queen Bolete (Boletus regineus) is related to the King Bolete, and a native West Coast bolete mushroom.

Without a microscopic examination of the specimen in the picture, it matches the physical characteristics of the species.

It was found growing in a mixed hardwood/coniferous forest. The cap is dark brown (younger caps have a whitish covering). Pores are yellowing, meaning it is aged. They did not bruise blue. The stipe is white and only slightly bulbous at the bottom.
