Boletus Calopus

picture of the red pores of a Boletus calopus mushroom

Mushroom identification is never a cinch when going only with a picture.

The yellow and red stipe (red at the bottom) that bruises blue, along with blue brusising pores, provide initial clues for Boletus Calopus.

Additionally, the mushroom was found in the high elevations of the Cascades (approximately 5,000 feet) in late August. Again, both are calopus traits.

Some of the specimens presented around the web show predominantly red stipes.
