Dusky Grouse

picture of a dusky grouse

Dusky Grouse (Dendragapus obscurus), formally called the Blue Grouse, now consists of two different species.

The top picture shows the Dusky Grouse (Dendragapus obscurus), a native species of the Northwest and some areas of the Rocky Mountains.

These short, plump birds have blue shaded, mottled feathers, and they live around low elevation forested areas.

The Sooty Grouse (Dendragapus fuliginosus) is a bird of the coastal areas.
