Dusky Flycatcher

picture of a dusky flycatcher

Empidonax flycatchers can be very difficult to identify in areas where species ranges overlap.

Generally they are small, olive or brown colored birds.

In the Western United States, the Dusky Flycatcher has a range that overlaps with the Hammond's Flycatcher and the Gray Flycatcher.

The top picture shows a juvenile flycatcher in an forested area with both Dusky and Hammond's flycatchers. The identification as a Dusky Flycatcher is tentative.
