Hedge Nettle

picture of great hedge nettle flowers

Hedge Nettle is a genus of flowering plants in the mint family and about ten different species grow along the West Coast.

Costal Hedge Nettle (Stachys chamissonis) is the most wide ranging West Coast species, and the picture probably shows a variant nicknamed the Great Hedge Nettle (Stachys cooleyae).

It grows from valley floors to mid-mountain areas, in moist areas along streams and other wetland areas.

Like many flowering plants in the mint family, it produces a nice fragrance.
