Green Nature

Firewheel or Indian Blanket

picture of firewheel or Indian Blanket flower

Firewheel or Indian Blanket (Gaillardia pulchella), a striking flower in the daisy family, grows easily in sunny dry areas around the United States.

The flower's red petals, tipped with bright yellow borders, grow naturally in bunches along roadsides, and equally as easy in cultivated gardens.

It makes an excellent source of nectar for large and small butterflies, and the people of Oklahoma like it so much they named it the state's official wildflower.
