Miner's Lettuce

picture of a miner's lettuce flower and leaf

Miner's Lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata) is a native, edible plant of the Western United States.

The picture shows a small white flower growing close to a comparatively larger single round leaf.

Plants are shade resistant. They often grow in clusters in and around forested areas, making them easy to find and identify.

Finding a group of plants means the start of a great salad. They are a good source of Vitamin C and fiber. The Candy Flower (Claytonia sibirica) is a related, edible plant also native to Western states.
